5 Best Mesh WiFi Network Systems
Linksys Velop
Linksys is a renowned name in the networking industry and aren’t too behind in terms of mesh WiFi systems either. The Velop is a tri-band mesh WiFi system that covers a total of 6,000 square feet. If you don’t need that much coverage in your home or office, you can choose to get just the one or two of these, depending on your preference. It’s easy to setup and will sit nicely on your desk or table, thanks to the sleek design. Each tower/node offers a speed of 400Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands and 867Mbps on 5 GHz bands.
it also comes with a mobile app of its own, allowing users to control every aspect of the network, including parental controls and limiting access to internet to a particular user. You can also choose to prioritize a particular device in the network, which is particularly handy in a public setup where a lot of guests use the WiFi. A setup like this is ideal for multi-story homes and offices which requires a vast internet range. A three pack of the Velop will cost $449.97 while a single unit (range of 2,000 square feet) can be bought for $189.99 on Amazon. The retailer is offering a bunch of combos with the product, helping you save some money in the process. Be sure to check it out.
NETGEAR Orbi
Netgear is yet another popular name in the networking segment and the Orbi is one of the most popular mesh WiFi systems available out there. This is a no frills setup consisting of a satellite and a router, which look very much alike. It can offer speeds of up to 1,266Mbps (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz combined), making for a truly enriching internet experience. The Orbi comes with an additional 5 GHz band which offers speeds of up to 1,733Mbps. It appears slightly larger than conventional routers, so it won’t be easy to hide.
There’s no fluctuation in bandwidth here, meaning you get to enjoy the full speeds offered by your provider. It’s filled with connectivity options too, with the router packing three Gigabit LAN ports, a WAN port and a USB 2.0 port. The satellite, on the other hand comes with four Gigabit LAN ports and a USB 2.0 port, offering the best of all worlds. It comes with a fairly decent price tag as well, with the two-pack system setting you back by only $291.99. For the kind of speed and connectivity options that the Orbi offers, we don’t think it’s a big price.
AmpliFi HD
This comes from a little known manufacturer, Ubiquiti, although it has built quite a good reputation for its networking equipment. It packs six high density antennas, offering a combined range of 20,000 square feet. The best part here is that since the antennas are built internally, there’s no hardware protruding from the satellites. In terms of appearance, the AmpliFi HD comes with a sleek body, and a router that comes with a touchscreen display. It can show the time and the networking speeds being offered by the router. The mesh points have to be plugged into a power outlet and is recommended to be branched out evenly to offer more coverage.
To churn out powerful data speeds, the AmpliFi HD comes with a single core processor on board. As far as speeds are concerned, the device offers a combined speed of 5.25Gbps on 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands. The mobile app is very handy, letting you create two separate SSIDs to monitor traffic more easily. The app doesn’t offer parental controls, however, which is a bit of a letdown frankly. The device will set you back by $329.99, making it one of the best mesh WiFi systems available out there.
Securifi Almond 3
This one comes with a range of 1,300 square feet, and adding more units will extend the range further. It’s slightly larger than conventional mesh WiFi routers, however, which might be a dealbreaker to a few. On the plus side, the large exterior accommodates a touchscreen display, which will help you through the easy setup process. The company claims that setup doesn’t require a computer or a CD of any kind, letting you get connected in no time. It also doubles as a smart home hub, which adds to its value.
It offers a combined speed of 1167Mbps over 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands, which isn’t as great as some of the other offerings here, but decent nevertheless. A single unit of the Almond 3 will set you back by $129.94 while a set of three will cost you $399.99.
Google WiFi
Best Mesh Wifi 2018
Google is no stranger to networking equipment either, and if you’re looking for an easy to setup and reliable home mesh WiFi system, the aptly named Google WiFi is the equipment to get. One unit covers 1,500 square feet, so adding three will cover 4,500 square feet, which is ample enough for a multi-storied complex. It uses beamforming technology, which offers the fastest speeds to devices. Naturally, there’s a dedicated app to make the setup process simple and easy for the customers.
Best Mesh Wifi 2018 For Amazon Alexa
Even though it comes with an app, there are no parental controls available here, which is disappointing. A single unit of the Google WiFi will cost you $114.84, while three units will set you back by $368.
