I've been using quicken 2010 for US, changing the currency to stirling. I've had a look at quicken essentials and it doesn't appear to have one of the features I use most, the financial calendar. I have looked at 2007 for mac, and this doesn't have the ability to change the currency symbol. Quicken 2019 for Windows imports data from Quicken for Windows 2010 or newer, Microsoft Money 2008 and 2009 (for Deluxe and higher). Quicken 2019 for Mac imports data from Quicken for Windows 2010 or newer, Quicken for Mac 2015 or newer, Quicken for Mac 2007, Quicken Essentials for.

But you really can only convert one way from Windows to Mac. Converting from Mac to windows is broken and doesn't work.

Have you tried exporting your file from Mac as Quicken Windows File (QXF) and importing onto the PC as a Quicken Windows Transfer File?

- edited December 2017Plus you can not transfer or convert or open existing data in the Windows Starter Edition. The Starter Edition is for new users only and will not open existing data unless it is also from the Starter Edition.

I think you're missing the point here...to some extent.I volunteered to establish an electronic accounting system for the group. I had a laptop (small screen) and a Mac (Big screen for someone with 60itis). Since the program stated that it was good for both systems, I opted to input the data into the Mac. I think I am screwed.
It was touched on earlier, but the data files are NOT compatible between Quicken Mac and Quicken Windows.
And the conversion process from Quicken Mac to Quicken Windows...even with non-Starter editions...is horrible at best.
Quicken should do a better job of communicating that although both versions are included, they are not compatible with each other.
And to volvogirl...I think the restriction of Starter Edition reading ONLY previous Starter Edition or new files is incorrect in the 2018 version. You can use Starter Edition to read ANY previous version of Quicken Windows now. Since investment accounts are not supported in Starter Edition, those accounts will be read only or non-existent in Starter Edition.
But...back to Don...don't know how much work you put into getting your data into the Mac version...but you'll need to recreate everything in the Windows version. Once you open that software, you'll begin to see the myriad of differences between the two versions...and thus the incompatibility of the data. - edited December 2017

Yes. This is all new with Quicken 2018 having both OS on the CD. And the Mac doesn't even have the same versions as Windows yet. - use the Windows version and use a VM (Virtual Machine) to run the WIndows version on a Mac
- consider placing the data on one machine and accessing it from another by using remote access software...(several free options, e.g. NoMachine and Teamviewer) to access Quicken on one computer from the other, or even mobile devices (see this great article for complete review of many options (most are free): http://machow2.com/rdp-for-mac/ ). Though this article was written primarily with Macs in mind, there are many solutions offered that work for Windows too.
CAUTION: NEVER access a Quicken data file over ANY network DIRECTLY, for risk of data corruption....only remote access software gets around that limitation.
Just remember that Quicken is single user only...no simultaneous multi-user capability.

I can't answer for the Mac side of this, since I don't have a Mac, but I suspect that they didn't take away the functionality of exporting in CSV you just have to know the details on how to do it.Unfortunately the process does not seem to work on the 2018 version. So my wife is a Windows user and is like, never going to give Windows up. Accounting types . . . what can I say? We have a small 'home network' and I upload Quicken data file to the shared disk to share and back-up Quicken data file. The one or two times of the year (tax time) that she access Quicken, she downloads from the shared disk and works away. The rest of the year, I'm the one who pays the bills, reconciles the accounts, and keeps our financial records up to date. To date, I use an HP laptop with Windows 10 and Quicken is the ONLY application on it. Just to be able to run QW. Argh!!
I would very much like to be able to use QM throughout the year and proceed as described above to allow wife to do taxes using her QW version.
Yes, I'm talking about both QM and QW using the same file! That's what I want!
Short of that, would very much like to be able to export out of QM to QW file so she can do taxes.

And in your case it seems like the simples choice is to use MS RDP and access the QWin data file on your Mac...one version of Quicken for Windows on the 'server'. Alternatively, you can use a VM to run QWin on your Mac...advantage is it will be a bit more responsive BUT you will have to make sure you know when the other person is making changes so you do not overwrite each others changes...or you need some kind of sign out process...Windows and Mac Quicken are completely different programs and you can't use the same data file on them. So you don't be able to share the data file. You need to convert the data. But you really can only convert one way from Windows to Mac. Converting from Mac to windows is broken and doesn't work.
In the end, looks like your wife trumps your choice and the only way to 'share' the same data at the moment is to using QWin, since she is stuck on that...
Unless, you can convince her to use remote access software on her windows computer and run the Mac version on your computer...Just be aware that the Mac version still lacks many features/capabilities that QWin has...That is a whole other discussion...I have posted many times on this forum...
